Socotra Island is linked with numerous legends, some of which are universally well-known, including the legend of a phoenix that lived in this remote Island, as mentioned by old historians. But there is no doubt that Socotra is one of the most bewitching Arab islands, and its natural scenes have no match anywhere else in the world. Socotra is often dubbed the “Galapagos of the Indian Ocean” due to its exceptionally high level of biodiversity and endemism in its terrestrial and marine ecosystem. This distinct “living museum” of botanical and zoological treasures sits at the crossroads of three biogeographically regions. It includes plenty of unique endemic floras and faunas, including some plant varieties over 20 million years old.
